Acupuncture

Here at South Centre Physiotherapy, we also offer Acupuncture.  Below is some more information on Acupuncture.

With a history of 2000 to 3000 years, Traditional Chinese Medicine has formed a unique system to diagnose and cure illness.

Acupuncture, one specialized modality of TCM, literally means to puncture with a fine, metallic sterile needle through the skin at special points (acupoints) along specific routes.

In normal health, energy circulates freely along the meridians.  When the circulation is obstructed, diseases and pain can occur.  Manipulation of the needles at the acupoints unblocks the obstructions to regain a healthy state.  Treatments with TCM not only can relieve the symptoms and treat the underlying causes of diseases, but can also strengthen the body’s energy and harmonize the whole body.  In Western medicine concept, acupuncture stimulates the release of endorphins, a natural pain killer produced in our body.

The World Health Organization (WHO) as well as the National Institute of Health (NIH) recognize Acupuncture as acceptable alternative for many conditions including bun not limited to:

  • Headache
  • Frozen Shoulder
  • Tennis Elbow
  • Carpal Tunnel Syndrome
  • Lower Back Pain
  • Sciatica
  • Osteo-Arthritis
  • Fibromyalgia (general muscle pain)
  • Menstrual Cramps
  • Digestive Disorders
  • Nausea, Vomiting and other illnesses
